Backcountry Skiing in British Columbia

This is our 14th year returning to Canada with Backcountry Babes! Come join us to as we ski the remote untracked powder of the British Columbia backcountry. We’ll hike and ski with experienced guides, retreating to our cozy backcountry lodge each night. Remember to pack your towel for the sauna!

Meet us at the Calgary Airport (YYC) and hop in the vans to Golden! We’ll spend the night at a casual hotel, to wake up early with a scenic helicopter ride over the Canadian Rockies to our backcountry lodge. For the next week, we’ll hike and ski the renowned snow of British Columbia just outside our door. Our highly experienced and fun female guides will share their knowledge with us and lead us through the best terrain. They have years of experience guiding our Backcountry Babes groups, and are accredited ACMG Ski Guides (Association of Canadian Mountain Guides.) Enjoy delicious meals crafted by our chef. Don’t forget to check out the high altitude stars. We’re proud of our high quality trips, guides, and clients. Just ask our return clients. References available upon request. Hope you can join us!

Duration: 7 days, depending on departure date
Activity Level: High
Required Skill Level: Backcountry skier able to ski ungroomed terrain; have some backcountry experience; ability to hike at elevations of 7,000 ft. plus. Must love skiing powder downhill! We can teach many uphill techniques on the trip.

Jan 13-21, 2024. Mistaya Lodge.

A note on snow and timing: It’s impossible to predict snow! We’ve had excellent conditions in December, rain up to alpine ridge tops in February, cold powder storm skiing days in April, and everything in between, sometimes all in the same week!

Whatever conditions mother nature gives us our guides find the best elevation and aspect to ski & ride for the best possible lines.  We recommend committing to a week that works best for your schedule rather than trying to “time it” with the weather. Once you commit, you have a chance to get lucky with powder skiing! And the odds are good!

Testimonials

Our trip to Japan was phenomenal! As the location becomes more exotic, it becomes more important to have a guide who knows the area and knows where to find the goodness; Check. Combined with fantastic organization and a small group, we spent all of our time in the enjoyment zone. Kudos to Emily for getting all the elements just right, and creating a lifetime memory.

I can’t even describe the emotions I feel thinking back to the two backcounty ski hut trips I’ve done in Canada with Backcountry Babes. It’s a lot of “Oh my god that was fun!”, but it was also such a confidence builder. I feel like I can hang, I’m a badass, and now I know all these incredible women that I can use as role models.

This trip was one of the most rewarding outdoor experiences I’ve ever had. Great women, fantastic guides, way too much food, and AMAZING skiing! As soon as I got home I was already signed up for next year’s trip.

My eternal thanks to Backcountry Babes for showing me what the backcountry is all about. The March 2016 trip to Powder Creek Lodge was my first hut trip in BC. We skied the lodge’s spectacular terrain, tracking up perfect virgin fields of white and bootpacking cold couloirs when the vertical got too steep to skin. I disconnected from the world all week (!) and instead connected to 14 women who were strangers to me at the beginning and now are anything but. I left exhausted and worked and spoiled for life. Can’t wait to do it again!

Esme D.Canada Hut Trip

I just returned from my third Backcountry Babes backcountry hut trip, and I can’t wait to go again! It’s not just about the powder, the peaks or the ability to disconnect for a whole week. It’s about these amazing women–babes who are smart, passionate, compassionate AND who know how to shred the gnar! Thanks, Backcountry Babes for the conversation on the skin track, the tips and education, the encouragement and the non-stop laughs.
