All Women’s Swiss Alps Bernese Oberland Trek – 2021 TBA

Location - Switzerland

Hike through the Swiss Alps

The Bernese Oberland is a magical part of the Alps with non stop singing cowbells, endless rainbow colored wildflowers and some of the world’s most iconic mountains.  This trip itinerary includes some of the best trails this region has to offer with daily changing views of the Eiger paired with delicious food and incredible mountain vistas.  Your daily hike from one location to the next via your feet while dining on fresh local cheeses, wines and staying in lovely small run family hotels and mountain inns will surely leave you dreaming of your next visit to the Alps.

Duration: 6 Days, 5 nights
Activity Level: Moderate
Required Skill Level: To enjoy this trip you will want to be able to spend 5-8 hours on your feet with a small day pack.  The options in the Bernese Oberland are extensive with shorter and longer options each day but it’s important that your physical fitness does not limit your daily adventure goals.  Elevation gain and loss each day will vary with a maximum of 3,500 ft. and 8-11 miles in distance.

Swiss Alps Trek Details

Arrive in Switzerland, and transfer by train to the quiet town of Meiringen. We’ll meet in the afternoon and take a bus ride up to our remote inn to start the tour.

After breakfast, we’ll hike over the Grosse Scheidegg Pass and enjoy our first views of the Eiger and of the Grindelwald Valley. With 10,000 vertical feet separating valley from peak, Grindelwald sits at the base of one of the most impressive vertical mountain walls in the world. Perhaps we’ll detour via the postcard-perfect Bachsee Lake before winding down to the glacier village of Grindelwald and our lovely 3-star hotel.

Today we’ll explore the Grindelwald Valley and hike to the famous Kleine Scheidegg Pass.  The entire day is dominated by great close-up views of the Eiger North Face – perhaps the most notorious climb in the Swiss Alps. We’ll descend to the quiet village of Wengen for a restful night.

We’ll enjoy spectacular views of the Jungfrau and surrounding mountains on the way down from Wengen. Our trail winds through flowery meadows and dense woods to the lush Lauterbrunnen Valley floor. After a break for lunch, we’ll hike to a wild and isolated corner of the Lauterbrunnen Valley for a memorable night in a remote mountain inn in one of the most spectacular corners of the Bernese Oberland.

We have a couple of trail options today – the first, a panoramic climb over a high ridge with breathtaking views in every direction, the second, a beautiful wooded hike filled with waterfalls.  Both lead through sleepy Gimmelwald to the car-free village of Mürren, with its unparalleled cliffside views of the surrounding mountains. Stay in a comfortable 3-star hotel.

Today we say good-bye to the Bernese Oberland and depart for our post-tour destinations.

Getting There

There are a number of travel options to meet your group in the Bernese Oberland for the start of your trek.  We recommend flying in and out of the Zurich airport as its the most convenient.  It is also possible to fly in and out of Geneva but it’s a bit further travel and a larger airport.  Other locations in Europe are also possible if you intend to add travel to the start of end of this trip.  Please let us know if you have any questions as we have our favorites that we’re happy to share.

Our trip to Japan was phenomenal! As the location becomes more exotic, it becomes more important to have a guide who knows the area and knows where to find the goodness; Check. Combined with fantastic organization and a small group, we spent all of our time in the enjoyment zone. Kudos to Emily for getting all the elements just right, and creating a lifetime memory.

I can’t even describe the emotions I feel thinking back to the two backcounty ski hut trips I’ve done in Canada with Backcountry Babes. It’s a lot of “Oh my god that was fun!”, but it was also such a confidence builder. I feel like I can hang, I’m a badass, and now I know all these incredible women that I can use as role models.

This trip was one of the most rewarding outdoor experiences I’ve ever had. Great women, fantastic guides, way too much food, and AMAZING skiing! As soon as I got home I was already signed up for next year’s trip.
