Chika’s warm smile, cheerful attitude and unrelenting enthusiasm for skiing make her a perfect fit as a member of the Backcountry Babes team. Chika guides backcountry skiers in Hokkaido and Hakuba in the winter, leads hiking excursions in the summer, and teaches wilderness medicine courses throughout the year. She became a backcountry ski guide after years of ski patrolling back to back winters in Japan and New Zealand, and avalanche forecasting. She is a JMGA certified ski guide and a member of the Japan Avalanche Network, the organization responsible for informing the public about avalanche safety in Japan.
After a long day of skiing you can find Chika soaking in a Japanese onsen (hot spring), her favorite way to relax. The thing she loves most about about guiding in Japan? Getting to ski the deepest powder in the world, of course.
