Janine grew up on a farm in southeast Washington State, learning to ski on the Palouse hills. Janine’s love for the outdoors brought her to Colorado to explore the mountains and work and study in the outdoors.
Janine has worked in Colorado and Oregon guiding rafting, rock climbing, leading alpine skills, mountain biking, and backcountry skiing. Janine has worked 10+ years at Monarch Mountain Ski Resort, as a ski patroller, snow-cat guide, and Assistant Ski Patrol Director. There, she developed her skills as an EMT, forecasting (weather and avalanche), avalanche mitigation, explosive route leading, snow safety director, and risk manager. Janine has been active in the American Avalanche Information Research & Education progression, completing Avalanche Levels 1 & 2 and becoming an instructor (ITC) for AIARE avalanche courses.
In the summer months, Janine is busy in her garden, fitting in as many river miles as she can, and riding single track. She currently works for the Forest Service in Fairplay, Colorado. Janine believes in empowering women, building lasting networks, and having fun.
